Naftin Gel, 1% is a topical medication that contains naftifine hydrochloride, a synthetic antifungal agent. It is only meant for external use. The chemical name of naftifine hydrochloride is (E)-N-Cinnamyl-N-methyl-1-naphthalenemethylamine hydrochloride. Its empirical formula is C21H21N•HCl, and its molecular weight is 323.86. The gel also contains inactive ingredients such as polysorbate 80, carbomer 934P, diisopropanolamine, edetate disodium, alcohol (52%v/v), and purified water.
Naftin ® Gel, 1% is indicated for the topical treatment of tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis caused by Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Trichophyton tonsurans. Efficacy for Epidermophyton floccosum has not been extensively studied.
